PGL 2022 - Day 5

The day has finally come for us to get ready for our last set of activities and head back home. The teachers were greeted with complete darkness and silence in each room. Only an occasional grunt showed any signs of life. With the pace of what could be only described as a snail with no urgency, the children packed the rest of their belongings.

The children slowly sauntered to the breakfast hall rubbing their eyes and yawning, and maybe even some of the teachers. Glaring at our plates of food, we ate what we could to provide us with enough energy to see us through our last set of activities.

Vertical challenge, sensory trail and challenge course were on today’s menu.

With the rain from last night, it was a very cool morning, which we all appreciated. The sensory trail started off extremely well, and yet again, the comments from the instructor were highly positive. Ms McGibney’s group took on the cooler, but still harsh terrain of the trail. Children already blaming Mr Chan for getting tickled in the neck and ear! With no sense of sight, the children had to be guided by other senses, or in some cases, just hold on to the rope and run, fall, crawl, scramble over anything in their path – we had some very wet bottoms at the end of this!

Mrs Hall’s group had to tackle the ‘Challenge Course’ today. They worked together as one whole team before splitting up to race one another.

During the ‘Vertical Challenge’, both groups mustered as much energy as they could to reach their highest destinations continuing to show that support and resilience once again.

It was time for our final meal of our PGL experience. Food eaten, bags loaded and farewells said, we set off for home.

Years 5 and 6 should be incredibly proud of everything they have achieved here at PGL. We are definitely proud of them. They have supported each other through nerve-wrecking activities and demonstrated a resilience they had within themselves all this time. The teachers have had the pleasure of witnessing their growth every day, and some had to fight back the tears seeing and hearing what they have done for each other. They will sleep well. Don’t be surprised if you cannot wake them until Sunday morning! Stories will be shared, even the ones that didn’t make it on the blogs. Just remember, any stories you hear about Mr Chan, take with a pinch of salt, unless they are all positive things of course!

A big thank you to Mrs Hall and Ms McGibney for all their hard work this week. Without them, this trip would not have been such a success.

Have a fabulous weekend.
